The day will start with a 9:00am departure by mini-bus from Iquitos city to the port town of Nanay (Bellavista), where the Rio Nanay meets the Rio Amazonas. Along with the various species of monkeys, you will have the opportunity to hold very large anacondas, boas and interact with the very unique and rare amazonian mata-mata turtle. At Monkey Island, you will also see alligators, turtles, toucans, macaws, parrots, etc.

There will be a dolphin watching session at the camp, where you will have the unique opportunity to see the pink freshwater dolphin. If you are lucky, you will also have the chance to swim with them on the main Amazon River.

In the evening, you will go on a nocturnal nature hike to see what types of species can be seen (lizards, snakes, spiders, monkeys).

Overnight at Maniti Lodge.

Day 2: Animal Observation Excursion - Piranha Fishing - Nocturnal Caiman Excursion

We will begin our day early, waking up in time to see the sunrise over the Amazon River. Then we will leave the camp to go on an animal observation excursion (via boat), where will have the opportunity to see various types of flora and fauna.

There will be an afternoon fishing excursion by boat, with the opportunity to catch piranha, catfish, and other species of fish. You will get to see Victoria Regia – the largest freshwater aquatic plant in the world.

After sunset, we will go on a canoe excursion to spot and catch caiman. You will have the opportunity to hold, touch, and take photos with the caiman.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  1. I can’t find my accommodation listed in the operator pick up locations as I’m making my booking. What should I select?

This operator only offers pick-ups from the hotel and hostel accommodation listed, this covers over 90% of the accommodation providers in the area. They do not provide pick-ups or drop-offs at private residences, Airbnbs, bus terminals etc. Select an alternative close by and be ready there for pick-up at the time on your booking confirmation.

  2. What vaccinations do I need? Are they required?

Maniti Camp Expeditions and the country of Peru do not require that travellers receive vaccinations, but we do recommend it! Recommended vaccinations are yellow fever, malaria, hepatitis A & B and typhoid fever.

  3. What is included in the price of the tours?

All tour packages are “all-inclusive” and include everything (except airfare): all airport transfers, food, private lodging with bathrooms, entrance fees to parks, guided tours, equipment & transportation.

  4. I am thinking about visiting Iquitos during the “rainy season”, should I wait?

Iquitos has a very tropical climate, and the rain can come and will pass very fast. It never rains here for long periods of time. If it rains when you are here, we will still do all tours and excursions on your itinerary. Sometimes we must change the order of the itinerary according to the weather conditions, but this is very common. You will get to participate in everything that is included in the tour that you decide to purchase.
