Day 1: Riohacha – Taroa Dunes - Punta Gallinas
The tour starts at 8:00am from Riohacha. The journey to Punta Gallinas goes through Cuatro VÃas, and the indigenous Wayúu capital Uribia, where you can buy supplies. It continues along the railway tracks that lead to Puerto Bolivar, until you take the road to Bahia Portete, BahÃa Honda, and Pucheo, where you can enjoy lunch. The tour then passes through indigenous communities, such as Pasadena and Paradiso.
You’ll arrive at the Taroa Dunes at 3:00pm, where you’ll be enchanted by the beauty of the sand dunes. You can enjoy a swim in the Caribbean and later watch the sunset. The journey continues to Punta Gallinas, where expected arrival time at the eco-lodge is 6:00pm. Dinner will be served, and afterwards you can enjoy the evening observing the stars in the night sky, and rest in a comfy cabin with beds.
Day 2: Punta Gallinas – Cabo de la Vela
At 8:00am, after breakfast, you’ll visit an area with wells and the beach of Punta Aguja. There you can relax and enjoy the Caribbean, before returning to the lodge for lunch at 12:00pm.
At 1:00pm, you will travel via a scenic route to Cabo de la Vela, passing by the lighthouse which is the most northern point of South America. You’ll also see the viewpoint of Bahia Hondita, and the indigenous communities of Paradiso, Pasadena, and Pucheo. You’ll pass by BahÃa Honda, BahÃa Portete, and Puerto Nuevo, and will arrive in Cabo de la Vela at 4:00pm.
Here, enjoy a trip to the beach of Ojo de Agua and the Lighthouse, where you can watch a beautiful sunset. At 6:00pm you will return to the lodge for dinner, and rest in a cabin with beds.
Day 3: Cabo de la Vela - Riohacha
Following a tasty breakfast, at 8:00am you’ll visit the Rainbow beach and the Pilón de Azúcar, where you can hike to the top of the hill. From there, you can take in the incredibly beautiful landscape of desert meets sea. When you’re back down on the beach, go for a refreshing dip in the tropical waters of the Caribbean Sea. At 12:00pm, you’ll return to the lodge for a well-deserved lunch.
The trip back to Riohacha will commence at 2:00pm. You’ll first pass through the vast deserts of Ahuyama and Carrizal, before arriving in the town of Manaure. Here you’ll visit the salt mines, and observe the exploitation of salt.
Afterwards, the route continues through the desert of San Agustin, past the community of El Pájaro, and by the gas pipeline and the beautiful beaches of Mayapo. You will arrive in Riohacha at 6:00pm, and end your fantastic three-day adventure!

- Bring a flashlight, passport, and cash as there are no ATMs in the area
Cancellation or changes of this tour:
CHANGES: Any changes to the tour date need to be done before 4:00 pm (Bogota time) 2 days before the tour begins.
NO SHOWS & CANCELLATIONS: If you cancel 2 days prior to the tour before 4:00 pm (Bogota time), a 10% administration fee will apply. After this time there is a 100% no show or cancellation fee.
