DETAILED DESCRIPTION

At 3pm, you will find your bilingual freelance Wally guide waiting for you outside of the front entrance of the Museo Bellas Artes (in line to the street side). In case you don’t know, Wally wears a white and red striped T-shirt (in Santiago, this is easier to find than in the fun kids’ books).

After introductions, we head around the corner to the Bellas Artes neighbourhood, where you will see some of Santiago’s most symbolic street art. There’s a few stops before we hit up Plaza De Armas, where you will learn more about the street dogs and what makes Santiago tick.

At 3:30pm, we will introduce you to one of the favourite hangout spots of the young locals, and the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Centre (GAM). From here, you will explore the hip Lastarria neighbourhood (time to put bets on how many hipster beards you think you'll spot).

At 4pm: We finish off just in time for cocktail hour in one of the cool bars. Your freelance Wally guide will offer up their best recommendations and advice over a drink. Feel free to turn into curious George and ask away. Don’t forget, this is a pay-what-you-feel tour, the enjoyment levels are on and the pressure level is off!

At 4:30pm, we’ll take to wandering through some streets that could be easily mistaken as European. Your freelance Wally guide will explain all about the distinct (and a little odd) Coffee culture in Santiago. You will find many photo opportunities on our way to La Moneda, so make sure you’re battery is all charged up! Listen to your freelance guide discuss the 1973 military coup, to a backdrop of La Moneda Presidential Palace.

At 5pm, when your legs are rested and you understand the coup and political situation a bit better, we’ll head into the Metro Universidad de Chile. It may seem a little odd to visit a Metro, but all will become clear once you see the stunning murals inside. Arriving in Santiago’s heart, you will see an array of visually impressive buildings. Weave amongst the smell of completos (a kind of Chilean hotdog), and games of chess being played. Here, we are at the Plaza De Armas. Remember to look up - as well as around - when you visit the church’s interior. The ceilings are a work of art!

Finally, at 6pm, we’ll finish off just in time for a glass of wine in our office. Listen to your freelance Wally guide, who will be more than happy to dish out tips and recommendations. Ask any questions you may still have – remember, on this tour you pay what you think it deserves. A tour for tips also with tips, the best you can get in Santiago!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  1. What happens if we arrive late?

Try not to be! We wait for tourists 15 minutes before the start of the tour, in order to get acquainted and check everyone in. A manager will wait for around 5 to 10 minutes after the departure time, so if you are a couple of minutes behind, normally you can just join onto the tour at their first stop near the starting point.

  2. How much does it cost?

This is a pay-what-you-like tour. There are no fees. If you loved the tour, pay what you think the freelance guide deserves, and if you didn’t enjoy yourself, you are not expected to pay a single penny. The average tip is between $10 and $20 USD, but it is really down to the person to pay as they feel.

  3. How do we know who our freelance guide is?

It’s easy! They will be wearing a white and red striped T-shirt, just like the dude in the “Where’s Wally” books… Although this time they will stick out much more easily. Head over to them, and they will give you a warm welcome and let you know what to expect.

  4. What is the group size normally?

Group size varies between seasons. We are always prepared with backup freelance guides if the tour number exceeds 22, ensuring the quality does not waver. The tours tend to have a good amount of people, making it not only enjoyable, but also a good opportunity to meet fellow travelers. After the tour is over, people often go together to grab some food and wine!

  5. What ages is the tour suitable for?

This tour is suitable for all ages! In particular, our tours are enjoyable for younger generations, with our high energy, freelance tour guides. It’s also appropriate for the wiser folk, and for people who love to learn about the real history and culture of Chile. However, it’s not recommended for those that have trouble walking or standing for periods of time, as you’ll be on your feet for around 3 hours.
