DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Day 1: Hotel/Hostel Pick-up - Monkey Island - Fishing Excursion - Dolphin Spotting - Nocturnal Hike

Rise and shine for your morning departure from Iquitos city! We will travel by mini-bus to the port town of Nanay (Bellavista), where the Rio Nanay meets the Rio Amazonas. From here, we will go by boat for about 2 hours down the river (70 km). During this boat journey, keep your eyes out for wildlife, such as caimans, turtles, herons, pink river dolphins, snakes, and many other species of flora/fauna along the riverbank.

We will visit Monkey Island: This is a small island which is home to a large number of monkeys in their natural habitat. Here, you’ll have the unique opportunity to observe and interact with a wide variety of monkeys, including: squirrel monkey, spider monkey, sloth, goeldi’s monkey, tamarin monkey, capuchin monkey, yellow-handed titi monkey, masked titi monkey, cebidae monkey, woolly monkey, south american coati monkey, and many more! You will have the opportunity to interact with the very unique and rare Amazonian mata-mata turtle, as well as hold very large anacondas, and boas.

There will be an afternoon fishing excursion by boat, with the opportunity to catch piranha, catfish and other species of fish. We will then enjoy a dolphin watching session at the camp, where you will have the unique opportunity to see the pink freshwater dolphin. If you are lucky, you will also have the chance to swim with them on the main Amazon River.

A nocturnal nature hike will take place in the evening, during which you will discover what types of species can be seen (lizards, snakes, spiders, monkeys).

Overnight at Maniti Eco-Lodge.

Day 2: Morning Jungle Hike - Visit with natives - Belen - Victoria Regia - Drop-off

You’ll start the day with an early morning jungle hike, during which you will have the unique opportunity to see a vast number of monkeys, birds, and many other wildlife species in their natural habitat. You will also see and learn about various types of Amazonian plants.

After, we will depart from Maniti Lodge, to make our way back to Iquitos. En route, we will visit a local native Indian tribe to learn and observe about their history and customs.

Once we arrive to Iquitos, we will visit the market of Belen. Here, we will enjoy a private canoe ride through the floating market of Belén, which is situated on the edge of the Itaya River. You will also get to see Victoria Regia – the largest freshwater aquatic plant in the world.

The tour will end with your transfer to the airport/hotel.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  1. I can’t find my accommodation listed in the operator pick up locations as I’m making my booking. What should I select?

This operator only offers pick-ups from the hotel and hostel accommodation listed, this covers over 90% of the accommodation providers in the area. They do not provide pick-ups or drop-offs at private residences, Airbnbs, bus terminals etc. Select an alternative close by and be ready there for pick-up at the time on your booking confirmation.

  2. I am thinking about visiting Iquitos during the “rainy season”, should I wait?

Iquitos has a very tropical climate, and the rain can come and will pass very fast. It never rains here for long periods of time. If it rains when you are here, we will still do all tours and excursions on your itinerary. Sometimes we must change the order of the itinerary according to the weather conditions, but this is very common. You will get to participate in everything that is included in the tour that you decide to purchase.

  3. What is included in the price of the tours?
