DAY 1: SANTA MARTA - EL MAMEY - CAMP 1
TThe adventure starts at around 9:30am at Expotur’s office, where a four-wheel drive will take you on a 2 ½ hour journey to El Mamey, the place where we'll have lunch. Fill up, as you’ll need the energy for the afternoon’s walk!
You’ll begin the journey to the sacred place of the Tayronas (the ancient inhabitants of the Lost City) on a trek of 3 ½ hours. At the end of the afternoon you'll arrive at the first camp, where you can explore its surroundings – there are rivers, natural pools, and waterfalls – it’s a perfect place to relax. You’ll then have dinner and spend the night in hammocks.
DAY 2: CAMP 1 - CAMP 3
The day begins with breakfast early in the morning. You’ll then start to walk by the Buritaca riverside, where you’ll find plenty of houses which make up part of an indigenous “Kogui” village called Mutanshi.
Today’s trek will take about 7 hours, passing through the jungle of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta where you can enjoy the biodiversity. You'll finally reach the third camp (equipped with hammocks, beds and tents), where there’ll be a delicious dinner and rest after an adventurous day.
DAY 3: LOST CITY - CAMP 2
Early in the morning, you'll enjoy breakfast and then start climbing up the 1,200 steps to reach your destination: the beautiful Lost City. This trail was constructed by the Tayrona people, an ancient Colombian civilization.
Once you get there, the guide will point out all the important features of this magical place, full of relics and ancestral stories. You’ll spend the morning enjoying the scenery, resting, and taking pictures. Finally, you’ll have lunch at the third camp, before heading back to camp 2 for dinner and a good night’s rest.
DAY 4: CAMP 2 - EL MAMEY - SANTA MARTA
The last day of this adventure begins with breakfast at the camp, before continuing on your way back to the point where it all started. During the walk, you’ll find rivers and waterfalls to stop at for refreshing breaks. Finally, you’ll reach El Mamey, the place where you’ll have lunch. After, the 4WD will pick you up to go back to Santa Marta, arriving back at around 5:00pm.
Note: The tour is given in Spanish: it is not necessary to have a bilingual guide for this trip, as you will be enchanted with the magic of the Lost City.
