DAY 1: SANTA MARTA - EL MAMEY - CAMP 1
This exciting 6-day expedition will commence at 9:30am at Expotur’s office. You’ll be driven in a four-wheel drive for 2 ½ hours to reach the town of El Mamey. Here you can stretch your legs and get some lunch: fill up and boost your energy levels ready for the next part of the journey which will be by foot!
You’ll trek for 3 ½ hours, and at the end of the afternoon you’ll be rewarded by the welcome sight of the first camp. Here you’ll find waterfalls, rivers, and natural pools. Spend some time just relaxing, before eating dinner and heading to sleep in your hammock.
DAY 2: CAMP 1 - CAMP 2
Rise and shine early for breakfast! On Day 2, you’ll take a walk by the banks of the Buritaca river. On the way, you’ll pass some indigenous homes that make up the small town of Mutanshi (an indigenous Kogui town). You’ll continue to the camp for the second night, at which you’ll sleep in either hammocks with mosquito nets, or bunk beds.
DAY 3: CAMP 2 - CAMP 3
On the third day, you’ll start walking for about 4 ½ hours, passing through the Parque Natural Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. There’ll be some breaks along the path, and keep an eye out for traces left by the ancient inhabitants of the region. Towards the end of the walk, you’ll cross the Buritaca river to reach the third cabin, where this night will be spent.
DAY 4: CAMP 3 - LOST CITY - CAMP 2
After an early breakfast, the ascent will begin to your destination. The Tayrona people constructed 1,200 steps up to their sacred city. These same steps are still here today, and you will follow them up to the magical site of the Lost City.
Upon arrival to this inspiring, spiritual place, the guide will give you an informative tour, and you’ll discover the ancient relics and stories of this city. Enjoy the scenery, wander around, and get some pictures for the album.
After some time spent here, you’ll make your way down for lunch – you’ll certainly have worked up an appetite over the course of the morning! Later, you’ll walk back to camp 2 for dinner and a night’s sleep.
DAY 5: CAMP 2 - CAMP 1
It’s another early start, with breakfast at 6:30am, and the trekking commencing at 7:00am. You’ll be walking to the camp located close to Mutanshi for lunch. After a rest and some food, you’ll be continuing along the jungle path to camp 1. Here you’ll eat dinner, and stay the night.
DAY 6: CAMP 1 - EL MAMEY
Get ready for the final day of your adventure! Enjoy breakfast at the camp, before walking the final part of the trek: this path will take you back to the place where you started, and you’ll pass rivers and waterfalls en route. Why not take a few refreshing dips along the way! Upon reaching the town of El Mamey, it will be time for lunch. After, the 4x4 will pick you up and transport you back to Santa Marta. Expected arrival time will be 5:00pm.
