DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Day 1: Cusco - Ninamarca - Paucartambo - Bambu Lodge

We will be picking you up at 05:30 AM from your hotel in Cusco and will embark on a drive from the Andes to the Amazon Rainforest. This will be a bit of a long drive with several interesting stops along the way.

Our first stop will be in Ninamarca town. It houses pre Incan funeral towers from the Lupaca civilization. Here we will be giving you a tour of the complex which will also give you an introduction to Lupaca civilization.

Our next stop will be in the folkloric town of Paucartambo. This vibrant town is home to a colonial church. However, people living here have preserved their age-old tradition and customs, in fact most of them still speak Quechua.

After having breakfast here, we will be driving you up the hill to Acjanaco Pass which is at 3550 meters above sea level (11646 feet). Acajanaco pass marks the border between the Andes and the Amazon Rainforest.

From the viewpoint here, you will get to contemplate the staggering view of the Amazon basin.

After soaking in the views of the Amazon Jungle, we will be driving down the hill to Manu National Park. Along the way, we will be stopping for lunch.

After lunch, we will be doing a guided hike where you will be able to spot the Andean Cock of the Rock, the national bird of Peru. This section of Manu National Park is also home to quetzals, hummingbirds and more.
Our guide will be explaining to you in detail about their habitat.

We will then drive you down to Pilcopata Town where you will be accommodated in Bambu Lodge for the night.

Day 2: Pilcopata Town - Boca Manu

After a traditional breakfast, we will embark on an hour and a half boat ride on Madre de Dios river. We will then navigate on Manu River. On this ride, you will be able to spot herons, kingfishers, black caimans and some 13 species of monkeys.

We will then return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Boca Manu - Macaw Clay Lick - Casa Matsiguenka

We will begin the day well before sunrise, we will be sailing early in the morning to see Macaw Clay Lick. This is the popular activity in Manu National Park.

Hundreds of brightly colored Macaws and Parrots fly here to lick the clay from the cliff. The clay here is known to be rich in nutrients that help these birds to flush toxins off their bodies.

Once you have enjoyed this, we will be returning to the lodge for breakfast.

After breakfast, we will embark on a six hours boat ride further deep into the jungle. You will have the opportunity of spotting turtles, white alligators, jaguars and more during the boat ride.

We will be reaching Casa Matsiguenka in the afternoon. It is a rustic Amazon lodge that boasts a cozy ambience as it is tucked deep in the rainforest. It is owned and managed by the people of the community who are often referred to as the real caretakers of Manu National Park.

There are plenty of trails around the lodge and Matsiguenkas take charge of guiding tours here. We will be visiting the Otorongo Oxbow Lake here which houses giant otters. The guide will also give you an insight into the life and traditions of locals here.

After the tour, we will be returning to the lodge for dinner.

If desired, we can do a night tour to spot some nocturnal creatures here.

Day 4: Casa Matsiguenka - Cocha Salvador

We will be serving you a traditional breakfast. After breakfast, we will be
Embarking on a boat ride to Cocha Salvador. You will be able to spot more animals and birds here. The region is home to spider monkeys, egrets and more.

Once you have had your fill of this, we will be hiking on a less travelled trail for about two hours back to Casa Matsiguenka Lodge. Along the trail, you will be able to spot more plant species which our tour guide will be explaining to you in detail.

Back in Casa Matsiguenka Lodge, the crew will be serving you a traditional lunch.

After lunch, we will embark on another trail that would take you to the protected area. Here you will have the opportunity to witness birds like Hoatzins. You will also get to see more bird and butterfly species here.

After the tour, we will be returning to the lodge for dinner.

If desired, we can do a night tour to spot some nocturnal creatures here.
