This tour will take you on a daring 20km route through the desert, making several stops at the top of the massive dunes. Test your sandboarding skills, take some amazing pictures, and admire the beautiful sunset at the end of the day.

The buggies that you will be going in will most likely 10 seaters, depending on our reservations. As you get the feel of the rolling dunes beneath the wheels of the buggies, prepare to lift your hands in the air as they take you on a wild and crazy ride, up, down and all around the dunes and sand craters.

The only group tour that goes during the day is in the afternoon, from 4pm - 6pm or 4:30pm - 6:30pm, depending on the season. This time of day is perfect as the sun is not so strong, allowing for a more pleasant and enjoyable time.

Sandboarding is a sport that you can do with little or no experience, lying down on the board and using your feet as brakes (or not!). For the more daring, or those with experience in snowboarding, you may want to rent a snowboard with bindings and boots in order to glide through the curves, a feat that wouldn’t be possible with the traditional wooden sandboard.

You will conclude the tour with an amazing sunset atop of the dunes. The colorful rays reflecting off the desert sand will have you coming back for more.

CHANGES: It is FREE to change the tour date before 6:00 pm (Lima time) 3 days before the tour begins.

NO SHOWS & CANCELLATIONS: If you cancel before 6:00 pm (Lima time) 3 days before the tour begins or earlier, a 10% administration fee will apply (+ the card fee). After this time, there is a 100% no show or cancellation fee.

1. Are pickups included?

   No. Huacachina is a tiny village with only a couple of streets. The meeting point for the tour is at Desert Nights hotel; it is located in Huacachina.

2. Why are these the only two times for the tour?

   The sand can be too hot from the strong desert sun during the middle of the day. Taking the tour late afternoon enables you to catch stunning panoramic desert views at sunset. This is why these are the only times we offer this tour.

3. What should I bring to the tour?

   We recommend that you bring sunscreen, a hat, water, comfortable clothes, lightweight trousers (to protect the knees should you wish to go down belly first), and closed-toe shoes. Do not bring flip-flops. Sunglasses are really important, especially because they protect your eyes from the sand flying around on the buggy ride! If you don’t have a pair, buy some!

4. Can I drive the buggy myself?

   No, it is not possible to drive the buggies. All of the drivers are certified; you cannot drive a buggy through the dunes without certification and special permits. You will understand why once you complete the tour!

5. Are the buggies safe?

   Yes, our buggies are extremely safe. All seats have a seatbelt to ensure you are strapped in safely. Our drivers make sure you have a lot of fun, but will never take any risks.

6. Is sandboarding safe?

   Yes, as long as you do not do anything crazy! We recommend that you lie down on the boards, as standing up is quite hard!

7. Can I take my camera?

   Yes of course! You can store it in the buggy when you are sand boarding, but try to bring a case to avoid getting sand on your lens!
