FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  1. How can I get to the Wine Tourist Centre?

The Concha y Toro Wine Tourist Centre in Pirque is 1 hour and a half from downtown Santiago, and almost 2 hours from the eastern area. It is easily reached by car or public transport. Follow these instructions to find the winery: BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Take the metro up to Las Mercedes station on line number 4 (blue line). Once you get off the train and out of the station, take the exit that says “Concha y Toro Poniente”. From there, you can take a taxi to the winery, or a Metrobus to Pirque (Metrobus number 73, 80 or 81). The cost of a taxi is around 4000 Chilean pesos ($6 USD), and the cost of the metrobus could be 350 Chilean pesos ($1 USD). On the return journey, you can ask the winery to call a taxi for you. BY PRIVATE CAR: Take the Vespucio Express Highway, and then the exit “Vicuña Mackenna”, found to your left or right, depending if you are driving south (left) or north (right). Continue on the same street, Vicuña Mackenna. After approximately 5 kilometres, the street changes its name to Concha y Toro. Keep driving, and be sure to cross the Maipo river through the San Ramon bridge. When the street ends, turn right onto Virginia Subercaseaux Street. The first entrance to your right is the Concha y Toro Winery.

  2. When is the best time to go?

Wineries in Chile are typically open for tourism year-round. However, since January and February are big summer vacation months in Chile, many wineries will close down at some point during these months - make sure to call or e-mail in advance. March through to May are the typical harvest months, with more activity at the wineries. Some wineries will even offer special ‘vendimia’ (harvest) events - either festivals, or the option to participate in the harvesting itself. Make sure to check their websites, or contact them directly to find out about any vendimia plans. If you want to visit and witness the harvest in progress, you’ll have to be in close contact with the wineries. This is because the harvest varies each year, and often they don’t know when it will begin until the week they actually start.

  3. Where can I eat?

There is a Wine Bar in the Wine Tourist Centre, which offers the best Chilean cuisine, and the possibility of tasting the most famous wines of Viña Concha y Toro. There are also several restaurants in Pirque, found on Avenida Ramón Subercaseaux, which is several kilometres away from the winery. This includes a popular Chilean restaurant named La Vaquita Echa. Alternatively, you can return to the Metro, where they have an assortment of local restaurants for you to choose from.

  4. Do children pay for the tour?

Those under 18 do not pay the entrance fee. They are able to go on the tour, but are not allowed to taste the wines. They have to be accompanied by someone over the age of 18. Children are not able to enter the tasting room of the Marques de Casa Concha Tour.

  5. Are there any other tourist attractions in Pirque, besides Concha y Toro?

Apart from the Concha y Toro Wine Tourist Centre, Pirque offers ‘rural alternatives’, ranging from crafts, to typical and international cuisine, as well as nature reserves.

  6. What should I bring to the tour?

You should bring comfortable clothes, a jacket (in the case of a cold day), walking shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and an umbrella (for rainy season). Don't forget to bring your camera, and extra cash for personal expenses.

  7. What time zone is used in Santiago?

Local time in Santiago is GMT -3.

  8. What kind of weather can we find in Santiago?

January is the hottest month in Santiago, with an average temperature of 21°C (69°F), and the most hours of daily sunshine, at 11. The coldest month is June, at 9°C (48°F), and the wettest month is July, with an average of 80mm of rain.
