The best way to enjoy Rio is by going on a city tour. The first stop is Christ the Redeemer, which can be found on top of the Corcovado Mountain. In 2007, it was chosen as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. To get there, you'll climb up the largest urban forest in the world, the Tijuca Rainforest. It takes about 40 minutes to visit the famous monument, where you can snap pictures and take videos of the gorgeous landscapes of Rio… Just breathtaking!
The descent is through the charming neighborhood of Santa Teresa, which is found in the centre of Rio de Janeiro. You will walk through Largo dos Guimarães, go shopping at craft stores, and have time to enjoy the local environment. Spend time observing the coming and going of residents, and appreciate the beauty of the eclectic and historical architecture.
After leaving Santa Teresa, you'll head over to the Metropolitan Cathedral, designed by the architect Edgar de Oliveira da Fonseca. The modern design captures tourists’ attention because of its Mayan pyramid architectural style, and the beautiful stained glass windows along the walls that allow sunlight to enter, creating a mystical atmosphere.
Following the Samba beat, the tour heads to Lapa. This is the bohemian neighborhood of the city, known for its bars where the sound of tambourines and drums roll loose until dawn. Pass the Arches of Lapa, the gateway to the neighbourhood. Centuries ago, these arches were aqueducts that brought water to the district of Santa Teresa. Today, a tram runs over them, taking passengers into the neighborhood.
To finish the tour, you’ll visit the Steps of Selarón, a staircase covered in colorful tiles with multiple mosaics. This was created by a Chilean artist, and is one of the city’s unique landmarks. A typical Rio tour!
